I bet you can't bite this burger in Weymouth!

Hello to Red, White, and YOU!

We hope you all had a wonderful July 4th celebration filled with all the things you wanted it to be full of: fireworks, hot dogs, bald eagles, bomb pops. I hope you got ‘em all. Love to all the dogs too. You made it through another year. I’m not sure how many of the firework shows I saw were legal or not but nonetheless thanks for them all. I love the 4th on the South Shore. Welcome to the after-afterparty. ❤️🤍💙

An Ode to SlackTide Coffee Roasters

Last weekend I did something that both makes me feel pretty anxious and excited at the same time. I had seen SlackTide Coffee’s Instagram post listing off their weekend specials and their bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit with strawberry jalapeño jam was calling my name so I hopped in the car and headed off for Marshfield.

What made me nervous and excited is that I brought along my camera, just hoping I could squeeze in and pull off a quick feature video. Sometimes local business owners are so busy that arranging a time to shoot seems daunting so sometimes just showing up is the way to go! Sometimes. Other times it understandably catches the business off guard, blows up in my face, and I end up feeling (and most likely looking) foolish. Thankfully, this was not one of those times.

I think I got a pretty pretty representation of what’s going on at SlackTide. Thanks so much to the team there for being so nice and letting me peek behind their highly caffeinated curtain. They do amazing things in that tiny space inside Levitate in Marshfield! (Second location now open in Hanover BTW.) Check out our peek below:

Goodbye to Two Longtime Favorites

I can’t even tell you how many chicken fingers I’ve eaten at the Wheelhouse Diner in Quincy. I loved that diner. It stuck out like a sore thumb in the area - and that’s part of what made it so great. An old-school diner right amongst all the hustle and bustle. I loved that it moved like a one-way street - in on the door on the right, you make your way to your seat somewhere in the middle, and eventually get spit out the exit at the left. The food was consistently good, the people watching was top-notch, as was the flattop show. I’ll truly miss The Wheelhouse.

The area is sad over the closing of another local favorite, La Paloma Mexican Restaurant in Quincy. Regulars showed their love by showing up in droves in the restaurant’s final days - a lengthy line outside the restaurant could be seen while driving by. A visual tribute to a restaurant which provided so many tasty memories for so many families for years. Both restaurants closed for good on June 30th. We’ll miss you both.

Famous Folks of the South Shore

I had heard recently that country phenom Zach Bryan had bought a house in Duxbury. Word on the street is that he’ll be spending a little time on the South Shore between insanely popular tours. In case it’s killing you to know how much he dropped on his new Duxbury home - $7.5 million, give or take a handful of nickels.

Most know about Steve Carell and his fondness for the area - have you been to The General Store in Marshfield?

This got us wondering: what other famous friends do we have setting up seasonal or permanent shop here in the South Shore? Send names: [email protected] — orrrrrr… don’t and keep their secret a secret. We know how it is.

Challenge: A Hamburger I Bet You Can’t Bite in Weymouth

Have been into Sweet Brazil in Weymouth yet? The parking lot is regularly busy, and with good reason: Sweet Brazil is a special place. It’s part Brazilian market, part Brazilian butcher, part fabulous bakery, and part buffet restaurant - complete with chefs carving meat on the spot for you.

Leo, the owner, took me for a tour and the place is so clean and state of the art. Everything is prepared right there, on-site. The dedication to high quality is very obvious as you walk throughout the building. Leo sent me home with all sorts of goodies for the family to try and they were all exceptional. I definitely recommend Sweet Brazil - the prepared foods look delicious, the meats in the butcher case look like meaty works of art, the people working are wonderfully helpful and friendly.

Now the challenge. Peep the burger I came across while I was shooting. I love a good food challenge and that’s one if I ever saw one. (It’s featured in the video below.) Go to Sweet Brazil, order the crazy burger, snap a funny pic with it, send it to [email protected] and I’ll feature you somewhere, somehow. Oh now you have to see this burger:

Time, it is a’ movin’! This week we passed the halfway mark for 2024. We’re over halfway done with the year! Wasn’t last week Christmas?! Time flies when you’re having fun… and that’s gonna do it for another weekly SSS newsletter. Thanks for reading, thanks for supporting local business, and thanks for being a part of what makes the South Shore so dang special. Have a great week. See you next Saturday morning!
