Mrs. Mekler is Waiting for You Inside...

HELLO THERE!

Welcome! Time for the SSS Newsletter, with two new additional recurring features! (Well I guess we should first see if they ever recur, lol.) First, I’ve been talking about making sure this newsletter isn’t just a place to hock the videos I made over the past week, that’s not what I want. I want this to stand alone with enough content of its own to keep you happy. So this week I’m adding in a 3 Questions feature. It’ll be a 3 question quirky interview with a notable South Shore figure. And second, my wife loves baking and I love eating her baking even more. So this week we launch Kristin’s Sweet Treat Recipe o’ the Week. Every week a new recipe collected from Kristin’s favorite places, battle tested and swallowed by our own family to ensure optimal yumminess. That’s what’s coming. Let’s get to it…

As Hull Struggles With Change, Schooner’s is a Constant

There’s a lot going on in Hull. In short time, what we’re used to seeing one way will most definitely look another.

There will be more living spaces for more people. More people could lead to more traffic and tinier beach spots. It’s all in motion so I guess it’s just a matter of time until we get our answer to: “how bad will it be?” I love Hull. And I’m hopeful that while this is a time of uncomfortable change in Hull, that the soul will remain. We’ll see.

While everything in Hull seems to be in flux, one restaurant feels like a steadfast constant: Schooner’s. I asked you in this newsletter 2 weeks ago:

What is that one South Shore restaurant dish you crave the most?

Thanks for your answers and keep them coming! Feel free to simply respond to this email. Tell me WHAT, WHERE, and WHY in a few sentences. Thanks!

Greg wrote in about his fondness for Schooner’s Steak Tip Caesar Salad so I made a video about it:

Kristin’s Sweet Treat Recipe o’ the Week:

My wife Kristin makes some of the best sweet treats I’ve ever tasted. So every week we’ll feature one of the recipes she’s trying and loving. If you try one of these recipes let us know what you think. Kristin would love to hear!

This week it’s…

PINEAPPLE UPSIDE DOWN CAKE

Oh me, oh my. She made this pineapple upside down cake last weekend and it was a crowd-pleaser. We’re a household of pineapple lovers so this was an easy hit with the fresh pineapple (we skipped the cherries). Kristin says it’s relatively easy too… but it definitely doesn’t taste it!

The recipe comes from one of her favorite food blogs, Inspired Taste. HERE’S THE RECIPE! If you have a sweet treat recipe you’d like to share with Kristin, respond to this email and I’ll make sure she sees it. Thanks!

And speaking of sweet treats, it’s time for

3 Questions with…

MRS. M!! Mrs. M is the founder of Mrs. Mekler’s Mercantile. Her products can be found in shops around the South Shore, at her famously-adorable Sugar Shack in Cohasset, at random Farmer’s Markets, and her newest venture - Sea Salted by Mrs. M in Pembroke.

The fabulous Mrs. M!

1) Everyone has their favorite but which Mrs. M's sweet treat is your personal favorite?
- I'm so much more a salty, than a sweet. Our Colossal Cashews are my favorite. I put them in a dry sauté pan and gently warm them to perfection.

2) What is one South Shore restaurant dish you find yourself craving?
- Meat and potatoes are the love language for my classic soul. Give me a double-cut pork chop from Stars in Hingham with two helpings of mashed potatoes and I'll slip into a satisfaction coma.

3) What is a hidden talent of yours?
- Mr. M says I can't hide anything, but if I had to pick, it would be that secretly I'm a builder. Rock walls, the Sugar Shack, classic cars, etc. are things that I love to make with my hands other than cookies and cakes.

Thank you Mrs. M! You are truly Willy Wonka of the South Shore. Thanks for being a great friend of South Shore Stuff since Day 1. Check out Mrs. M online here!

The Jetty in Marshfield Turns 10!

Happy Birthday to the Jetty in Marshfield! The Jetty celebrated it’s 10th birthday this past Wednesday with a big party!

Live music, a fancy charcuterie board, giveaways - Untold Brewing was even there pouring a special 10 Year IPA which they brewed just for the Jetty’s special occasion. It was great. Check the video and feel the festiveness:
