Time to Take August Out for a Spin

HELLO AUGUST!
I don’t know if we have any subscribers named August but if so that probably felt pretty specialized to you.
I can’t believe it’s August. Where is time flying? Stores have Back To School stuff out already. I was in a store yesterday that was all decked out for Halloween. I’m just trying to go to the beach today. Maybe I’ll see this guy there:

Thanks for being here, happy weekend, let’s get to the spooky good Stuff…
Winsor House in Duxbury Looks Pretty Good at 217 years old
Winsor House Restaurant in Duxbury was built in 1807. We ate there this week. It’s a really pretty space, now owned by Island Creek Oysters whose campus is right across the street.
Winsor House was nice enough to invite us out… and it was a really special lunch/brunch! And it’s not crazy expensive either. Oysters were under 4 bucks a piece and my smash burger and fries was $15. It was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. The oysters, obviously, are very top notch here as well.
But I kept coming back to the funky decor. So much history. The bar makes no bones about knob and tube wiring. It’s on display in rainbow colors! (Note: I’m sure it’s just for looks, right?) Everywhere you look there’s something reminding you of the history that has walked through this place over it’s many years in existence.
And then there’s Island Creek Oysters itself. WOW. I didn’t know it was such a machine. They have their own campus! Complete with apartments rented out to tenants and buildings full of people doing all sorts of things. There’s outdoor drinking and outdoor eating and lounging, staring out at the oyster farm as the oysters sit below the water and slowly grow before your eyes! You can’t see them… but they’re there. I really recommend you heading to Duxbury and taking it all in. It’s definitely something special on the South Shore. Here’s our vid. This one was a ton of fun to make:

Kristin’s Sweet Treat Recipe o’ the Week:
My wife Kristin makes some of the best sweet treats I’ve ever tasted. So every week we’ll feature one of the recipes she’s trying and loving. If you try one of these recipes let us know what you think. Kristin would love to hear!
This week it’s…
PEACH COBBLER BARS, featuring fresh local peaches from The Fruity (that’s what the Fruit Center likes to be called when you become really good friends)

Kristin made these bars last night as I type this and they were so good that Lilly (our oldest daughter) immediately proclaimed upon first mouthful that these are now a Top-5 Dessert for her. High accolades. I don’t know if you’ve been getting those fresh local peaches from the Fruity lately but if not, jump on it! They’re so sweet and flavorful - and they show up very nicely in this Peach Cobbler Bar recipe which Kristin got from Blue Bowl recipe blog.
It’s hearty with oatmeal but it doesn’t feel heavy. The magic is in the crunchy bits and the magic is in the playfulness between the peaches and the batter. It’s all good. Top with vanilla ice cream while hot and this may be your new fav. Check the recipe RIGHT HERE. It’s good.
3 Questions with…
ALDOUS COLLINS!! Aldous is a creative genius in the South Shore. His art is full of life - from his paintings to his music. Bright colors, warm sounds. They’re even reflected in his personality. I bet you can’t ask 5 South Shore people in a row if they know Aldous without getting back a personal story. The guy is tied in. He’s universally beloved in the area and for some reason he’s always been super cool to us here at South Shore Stuff. For that, we really thank him. He’s been dropping great new music, keep checking your streaming platforms and local record shops! And now, 3 (really random) Questions with Mr. Aldous Collins…

Aldous Collins rocking out hard.
1) What would you say is the key to your seemingly endless creativity?
I think the key is to keep searching for the key. Surrounding yourself with the right people is helpful.
2) You’ve partnered with Vitamin Sea Brewing to create a new summer drink called Pool Water and I’m obsessed. The slogan is “Drink Pool Water.” Where did this idea come from?
I was on a work trip with my best bud/business partner and I saw an old truck that said “Pool Water” on it. I said that’d be a cool name for a seltzer and he agreed. It cannonballed from there:)
3) Your new song “South Shore” shouts out many South Shore businesses. Time for one more: What South Shore dish are you obsessed with right now? (What restaurant and dish?)
I love a good bagel. I want to give a shout out to Ed Brunoli at Atlantic Bagel. Head there if you like a killer bagel.
Check Aldous out at the “Sunshine & Grass Festival” in Plymouth on August 11th! Grab all the details HERE!
Three Words: Hot Dog Flights. Two More: S’Mores Pizza.
Have you been in to The Pour Yard in Quincy? It’s right next to Cagney’s and has the same owner, Mark DiBona, who is a really nice guy!
The patio is large and VERY dog-friendly - they have a dog section with fresh water, bowls, even complimentary doggie bandanas and a doggie section on the menu. It’s so cute!
Their food is super shareable. Bring some friends, grab a table, and order some stuff to share. And you’ll love their drinks. We loved the Raspberry Lime Ricky and their house margaritas are really great too! They sell so many that they mix them up then fill a keg every day to pour off of. I asked Mark for a taste to make sure they didn’t taste funky poured off the keg - NOPE! They’re great. Their Hot Dog Flights have already gone viral - choose 2, 3, or 4 in a variety of fun styles - and don’t skip the s’mores pizza. One of my new fav desserts! Check out our video of The Pour Yard in Quincy:
